Ian was kind, warm, funny, principled, and smart and he loved his friends and family so very much. He is very dearly missed, and I feel so lucky to have known him.

Somewhere Ian has a birthday card with a quote from Kyung Hwa, "Ian is a cool guy, I hope he gets a girlfriend soon." A decade on, it's heartwarming to see his beautiful family, and heartbreaking to learn about their unfathomable loss. For me the memories of UBC are already starting to fade, but Ian is one of those highlights that will always shine bright. For example, his unwavering passion to defend the similarities between heavy metal and the opera. I'm grateful we got to share the time with him.

Ian was just a wonderful person and I will miss him dearly.
