About Paul Gilmore
A much-loved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Paul passed away peacefully on April 8, 2015, at home with his wife of 61 years by his side. He is survived by his wife Maryke and his children Ian (Tenley) and Karen (Rob), as well as his cherished grandchildren Thomas, Eric, Jenny and Allie, and his nephew John and niece Sharon. He was predeceased by his siblings Bob, John and Molly.
Paul was born in Lethbridge on December 5, 1925, grew up in Vancouver, and served in the RCAF. He studied at UBC, Cambridge (St John’s College) and Amsterdam University. After a successful career at IBM Research in New York, he returned with his family to Vancouver to become Head of the Computer Science Department at UBC. Paul was a scientist and a logician, who loved the arts and the outdoors, and was a wonderful loving family man and a good friend to many.
