About Bill Inglee

William (Bill) Kenneth Inglee was born on August 1, 1955 in Edmonton, Alberta. A lifelong journalist, Bill is remembered for his integrity, dedication and kindness in mentoring younger journalists. He began his journalism career in Alberta, before moving to the Lower Mainland in the 1990s.

Bill worked as editor of the Surrey Leader, the Langley Times and as managing editor of 24 Hours. He ended his career working as a videographer at the Vancouver Sun. After leaving 24 Hours, he joined the Vancouver Sun as an editor. He later returned to Langara to train as a videographer and then returned to the Sun in that role. Bill often said he was happy to be back on the street, filming interviews and connecting with people from all walks of life. He ended his career at the Vancouver Sun, grateful to keep learning and taking on new challenges.

Bill passed away in Vancouver on February 13, 2024 after a short illness. He is predeceased by his parents, William “Jack” and Lyn Inglee. He is survived by his loving wife Angela Wheelock, stepson Brendan Moore, daughter-in-law Kelly Wang and his loving friends.

Bill enjoyed life and, despite the cancer that took him, always said he got everything he wanted in life. He will be deeply missed by many. Go with peace, Bill.

  • Bill’s experience impressed undergraduate students at The Gateway during my time as Editor-in-Chief. He was a “mature student” when he served as Photo Editor. He already had earned a degree at the University of Alberta several years earlier, which was an achievement that the rest of us were still dreaming about. Over the years, Bill and I kept in touch, and he is truly missed.

  • Bill Inglee is remembered as the steady, wise, mischievous heart of the 24 hours newsroom — a mentor who lifted people up, calmed storms, and modelled integrity, humour, and grace. He is remembered for his deep generosity, his encyclopedic knowledge, and his delight in aviation, yoga-ball hijinks, and the small joys of newsroom life. Bill changed people for the better, and his legacy continues to fly long after him.
