Edward D. Bates, Q.C. died peacefully on July 20, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 73.

Inspired by his life, Ed’s family, friends and colleagues have created a fund for an award in his honour at UBC.

Your gift to the Edward D. Bates, Q.C. Award in Public Law will help to establish an award to support a student entering the second or third year of the JD program at the Allard School of Law who has demonstrated good academic standing and an interest in administrative law practice, including the work of administrative tribunals, boards and commissions.

Providing financial support for law students who are dedicated to the practice of Public Law is a fitting way to remember Ed and his contributions to workers’ rights and safety.
