About Gillian MacLean
Gillian Elizabeth MacLean was a graduate student in the UBC Department of Medical Genetics, who passed away suddenly on March 21, 2017, at the age of 29. She was in the second year of her master’s degree in genetic counselling. Prior to her time at UBC, Gillian grew up in Plaster Rock, NB and went on to attain degrees at UNB (BSc) and McGill University (MSc).
Gillian was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a determined student who had won several awards for her outstanding work as a graduate. Her wonderfully warm and positive personality left an impression on everyone she met. Outside of her studies, Gillian enjoyed spending time with friends and family and appreciating the beauty in nature.
Gillian suffered from narcolepsy, and complications from the illness were the ultimate cause of her untimely passing. She will be sadly missed by family, friends and colleagues alike. She was the daughter of Daniel and Rosalind MacLean of Plaster Rock. Gillian also leaves behind her sister Diana Brown (Brandon) of Fredericton; and her nephew Logan Brown of Fredericton.
