UBC Okanagan has emerged as a regional powerhouse boasting an intimate and entrepreneurial academic community that stretches the boundaries of teaching, learning and research to advance the greater good. Located in Kelowna—one of Canada’s fastest growing cities—UBC Okanagan is now the country’s fastest growing campus. In just under two decades our student population has grown three-fold to nearly 12,000, and our research funding has likewise tripled to $50 million. As well, our academic programs have expanded to include unique new offerings such as Canada’s first bachelor’s degree in Indigenous language fluency, and a new Bachelor of Sustainability.
Rooted in community and, uniquely, founded in partnership with the Syilx Okanagan Nation, we have always worked collaboratively to understand local needs and uncover home-grown solutions—with global applications. Now, as UBC Okanagan powers forward in the wake of a global pandemic, the call for practical, progressive and integrated solutions to pressing real-world problems is more clear and urgent than ever. With our accelerated pace and unwavering momentum, we face the future with confidence.
What comes next will be the result of collective action from our connected—and rapidly expanding—communities: researchers, donors, students, faculty, staff, and more than 20,000 UBC Okanagan alumni around the world. Our strength combined with your support will allow UBC Okanagan to lead in possibilities: to discover the unknown, create the unimaginable, and shape a more just and inclusive society.

Help students recover and revitalize Indigenous language through the Bachelor of Nsyilxcn Fluency Program, the first of its kind in Canada. This degree is an innovative collaboration between communities, Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT), En’owkin Centre, and UBC Okanagan to sustain, revitalize and restore the language traditions of Indigenous communities.
At the Advanced Materials for Energy Storage (AMES) Lab at UBC Okanagan, Dr. Jian Liu oversees a team developing the next generation of smaller and more powerful batteries. With applications ranging from electricity storage at the individual-home level to increasing the range and efficiency of electric vehicles—Dr. Liu’s research is creating sustainable energy for everyone’s future.
Today, there are more people alive on our planet than ever before—and they are living longer than at any time in human history. Your gift will help reduce the time it takes to turn research into results, and ensure more equitable access to healthcare and healthier outcomes across the generations.
Food and forest, sea and sky: sustainability touches every aspect of our living world and impacts environmental, social, and economic health around the globe. With your help, we will expand our “green innovation” efforts to respond to the climate emergency and deliver new solutions for the future.
