About Alex Kitt
Alex was a ray of sunshine with a bright smile and a contagious laugh. She was a selfless and loyal friend, offering support and a compassionate ear to anyone and everyone, even when struggling with her own mental health. She was a light in so many lives even as she fought her own darkness and we feel immense gratitude for everything she gave us. For the years we got to spend with her, for being able to watch her grow from the sweetest, cutest, happiest little girl into an amazing, beautiful smart young woman with such a huge sense of purpose. We will always remember her as an incredibly gifted person who was simply too beautiful and had too much love for this world.
Her beautiful, amazing mind inspired so many, and will continue to do so. As many of you know, Alex’s language was data and statistics, and she believed in thorough research and data-driven decisions when it came to important issues. This is why we are choosing to support UBC’s BeeHIVE Research Cluster – a group of researchers devoted to improving the health of honey bees and other pollinators. We can think of no better way to honour her than to continue supporting bee conservation and changing the world one kind deed at a time.
We will miss her more than words can describe, but will continue to carry her with us and share her message of “bee kind”.
The impact of your support
To honour Alex’s memory, the Alexandra Kitt Bee Kind Fund has been established to support Leonard Foster’s research group in the Michael Smith Laboratories. His lab studies honey bee health, including the parasitic mite and viruses that are responsible for most of the recent bee die-offs. In addition, they look at how nutrition and climate cause additional health stress in bees.
The funds will go toward supporting the research stipend of a graduate student working on honey bee health.
