It was an honour to know and coach Brett early in his years. He was always the bright star in a dimly lit room, he exuded traits beyond his years, and left a memorable impact on us all. My heart goes out to Brad and Bonnie, they've mentored many of us through our own trials and tribulations.

I worked with Brett at VGH. We work with so many residents, but I was struck by his kindness and attention to detail. He once removed a huge number of clips from a patient late on a Friday afternoon even though he could have sent his junior to do it. He was kind, skilled, and very funny. He was a real all-rounder kind of guy. We all benefit from such a capable, smart, and genuine people as Brett. I will miss him, and I want his family to know how much we miss him.

Our dept and staff are deeply saddened by Brett's passing. He was a kind, thoughtful and caring physician and person. He was so well thought of in our ED. I remember working with Brett when he was an R1 in our ED on a busy night shift and he remained the same humble, bright and spirited person each and every time he cared for patients in our ED and interacted with our teams. We were fortunate to know Brett and patients were fortunate to have Brett care for them. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and with Brett. He will be missed and remembered.

I recall one night shift when I assisted Brett in applying a Thomas splint on a very difficult patient. Me and two of my colleagues were aghast at how the patient questioned Brett every step of the way yet he treated the patient with such kindness, patience and respect. He always treated his patients and the RNs as such. I have been fortunate to work with such an exceptional individual. He was one of the best residents I've ever met. We miss him and will never forget him.

I had the pleasure of working with Brett in the Emergency Department at VGH where he was a 4th year Orthopedic resident. His kindness, patience, respect and humble character made him an excellent doctor to his patients and set such a great example for those who were fortunate enough to work alongside him. No matter how busy he was (and believe me, ortho residents at VGH are busy), he would always take the time to explain casting techniques to me and offer suggestions on how to improve my practice. He will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure to know and work with him, and condolences to his wife, friends and family with this great loss.

My deepest condolences to Kilb family... Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Brett was the best resident/ trainee that I ever worked with in 3 different continents. He was the best at anything and everything he did! He had an amazing way to connect with any one he ever came in contact with. The first call I ever did with him when he was R2, one of the parents came up to me and said Brett was amazing and can we see Dr. Kilb in follow up. I have had several of those experiences since. He most recently worked with us July and August. We also did some collaborative research with me. He was well on his way to be a super star orthopaedic surgeon in his chosen subspecialty. I have spent a lot of time with him at recent COA in social settings and he is a great guy to hang out with!

Dear Kilb and Zerr Family, I'm very sorry for your loss. Brett was a wonderful resident and warm person with a great sense of humour. While he had a rotation at SPH we had nicknamed him Thor. He was kind, always smiling and well-liked by patients and staff. I enjoyed getting to know him while working on a research project. He always dove into everything he did with tremendous energy and enthusiasm and our project was no different. I always admired that despite having a long day, he would still make time for us. Everyone who has ever been blessed to know Brett will miss him dearly and our thoughts are with you.

Deeply saddened to learn of this loss to everyone. Significant condolences to his family and close friends. To watch him as such a successful rising star in both the Orthopaedic world and the Research world has been very exciting. To see this snubbed out is devestating. Paul Wright Emeritus UBC

Brett was kind, enthusiastic, and skilled. It was a gift to have worked with him. He was so polite, and well mannered, and always interested in his patients. I am so impressed by him, and so sorry for his loss. Somehow, I always thought , this man, had a happy childhood, was well loved, and was raised well. My true condolences to his family.

Brett and I were classmates at Harvard, but I didn't get to know him until the spring graduate student kickball game, when he, Scotty Rieder and I donned our best pair of jorts and layered on our finest flannel to defend the glory of Canada by playing for the Eh Team. We were about seven players short of a regulation-sized squad and would have been prohibited from participating, had Brett not managed to convince a family of Danish tourists, who had never seen baseball, much less kickball, to play with us for the entire tournament. He successfully mimed the rules for them and unexpectedly furnished a mounted deer head, stolen from an undergraduate house, to be our team mascot. I could try the rest of my life and never come close to recreating the fun and sheer absurdity of that afternoon. I will always remember Brett for his kindness, generosity of spirit, endless positivity, and superlative taste in cowboy boots. To Brett's friends and family in Canada, thank you for letting us borrow your wonderful son / husband / brother / friend for a year. He made an indelible impression on us in Boston and will be deeply missed. My thoughts and warmest wishes are with you.

I remember Brett Kilb telling me as a very young boy in Elementary School that his life long dream was to become a Doctor. He is the only person I have ever known that was doing what his career goal was at such a very young age! He lived that Dream to the fullest every hour of every day with passion! I knew Brett Kilb was so committed to realizing his career goal of being Doctor when we went on 1 of our 3 Family Reunions in 12 years on Houseboats. Well Brett was on the shore rocks studying for his MCATS / Medical School entrance exam when the rest of us were on the houseboats! I am so proud to have had Dr. Brett Kilb as my Nephew! He has changed my perspective on life forever in so many positive ways!!! May God bless his soul and the UBC legacy to have his spirit live on in perpetuity with this Dr. Brett Kilb Memorial Scholarship!!!

Brett's unfailing warmth, cheerfulness, professionalism and work ethic were outstanding - even when exhausted, in the wee hours of the morning in the ED. He was one in a million. My sincere condolences to his family, wife and all those who are grieving the untimely loss of this truly special person.
