About Gill Moranwali
Gill Moranwali (Mohinder Singh Gill) was born on May 20, 1937 and passed away on November 6, 2017.
Gill Moranwali came to Canada in July 1970. He worked in a local tire factory until his retirement. Despite his struggles with systemic racism and classism in Canada, he managed to provide the very best for his family and to keep his love of poetry alive. Mohinder Gill wrote over 70 books of Gazals, poetry and narratives in the Punjabi language, and is the recipient of many awards from the Punjabi community. His most honoured work speaks to the oppression of Indian women and those most marginalized in society.
In his memory, Mohinder Gill’s family has established the Gill Moranwali Memorial Fund at UBC.
