About Katja Pecarevic
Katja Pecarevic, an alumna of the Sauder School of Business, was a talented instructor and passionate market research specialist.
Katja completed her MSC in Economics at the University of Zagreb, where she was a research and teaching assistant to Branko Horvat, one of the best known economists of his generation. In 1992, she became an economist at the Croatian National Bank, a position which she held for four years, until 1996, when she moved to Vancouver to pursue her MBA in Strategic Management at UBC. A strong and talented student, her academic success was recognized through membership of the Golden Key International Honours Society.
After completing her MBA, Katja held a number of positions in the private and public sector, as well as instructor positions at UBC, City University of Seattle, New York Institute of Technology, University of Upper Iowa, Vancouver Community College, and the School of Business at BCIT, where she was working as an instructor at the time of her untimely death.
Katja was devoted to her chosen career in market research and strategy. She was an avid translator – speaking 10 languages – and was passionate about endurance running, swimming, hiking and learning about foreign cultures.

Katja was passionate about market research and strategy and a strong advocate for the importance of education. It is fitting, then, that a memorial bursary has been established in her name at UBC.
With the increasing costs of education, many students rely on financial support to allow them to fulfill their dreams of a university education. Your gift to the Katja Pecarevic Bursary will honour Katja’s memory, and support current and future MBA students at UBC who are in financial need.
