I have known Nicole for almost 45 years. My first souvenir of her date back from 1973 or 1974, she was around 16 years old, I was in college. She and I met in the basement of a common friend for an improvised hockey party with parents, our college director and other students. I still remember this young woman, very social and so easy to talk. Several years later Sylvie and I got married. As she was terminating her studies in medicine at Laval University, Nicole was staying a few blocks from us, we became much close of her. She was a real model for us; having successfully managed with both life issues and challenging medical studies; this was Nicole an incredible capacity of resilience to find the equilibrium and a solution. We saw her successfully terminating her medical studies and completing a specialty in gynecology. In the middle 80’s Sylvie and I moved to Montreal looking for a new professional opportunities. We received a letter from Nicole saying she had been accepted for a post-graduate fellowship in Vancouver and then announce she was moving west. She put ‘’Neptune’’ (the cat) on an Air Canada Cargo and drive-up to Vancouver during almost 5 days I guessed. From this day, she was putting the foundation of an extraordinary family life in Western Canada. Nicole was not only a Doctor and a Scientist, she was also a sort of entrepreneur who like to challenge the life. Of course, she always wanted to analyze from several angles before taking a decision, but she was always on a ‘’ go and get it’’ not hesitating to take a risk. Nicole was an exceptional person for me and for Sylvie having successfully realized a wonderful family with Franco and Julia, a passionate life and a brilliant career. Nicole will be always in our mind. Love to you all. Pierre Walsh LeBel & Sylvie Pageau Marilie Pageau LeBel, Sarah Pageau LeBel

I worked with Nicole for many years in the obstetrical unit, as a GP doing a lot of maternity, and I knew her husband from university. A lovely soul and great doctor lost too soon

While Nicole was Head of the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UBC, I worked with her to realize her dream to create a preceptor program to help division members expand their surgical repertoire. It was and remains an incredibly unique and successful program. It also serves as a tangible example of her dedication to her colleagues and their education. We will miss Nicole, Geoff
