About Tim Holt
Born in Vancouver and raised in North Vancouver, Tim met his wife Pat after high school. After marrying and exploring Hawaii a few times, they had two kids, Heather and David and continued to live in North Vancouver.
Tim spent a large part of his working life as a co-owner and operator of Paine Hardware while volunteering as an Auxiliary Police Officer with the North Vancouver RCMP. After Paine Hardware tragically burned down, Tim began his career with Coast Mountain Bus Company where he worked until 2013.
Having an active lifestyle was important to Tim, who frequented the local trails around his home. He loved getting outside to mountain bike, go trail running, walk the family dogs, and play tennis. He also became an active badminton player at the local recreation centre in North Vancouver, right up until the end of his life.
When Dr. Bovard referred Tim to Dr. Paul Clarkson, Clinical Associate Professor, Director of Undergraduate Education with the Department of Orthopaedics at UBC and Orthopaedic Surgical Oncologist at BC Cancer Agency and Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) in 2013, Tim was diagnosed with a Pleomorphic Myxofibro Sarcoma. With the help of Dr. Clarkson, the staff at VGH, the UBC Transitional Care Unit, and the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Tim had the sarcoma removed, improved his health, and was able to move back home where he was happiest.
When the sarcoma reappeared in his lung the following year, it was with Dr. Clarkson and the assistance of Dr. John Yee, Assistant Professor in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at UBC, Cardiothoracic Surgeon with VGH that further surgery was undertaken to remove more of the sarcoma. Ultimately, the sarcoma was too aggressive and Tim lost his valiant battle with cancer in early 2015.
Tim’s family would like to thank Dr. Clarkson and his team, Dr. Yee, VGH, UBC’s Transitional Care Unit, as well as all the medical staff, rehabilitation staff, and nurses who support Tim and his family.
