Award-winning UBC Faculty Emeritus, Dr. Mahesh K. Upadhyaya, has dedicated many years to research, teaching and inspiring new generations of plant scientists. Scholarships totalling $1,150 have been endowed in his name for students focusing on agriculture and/or horticultural research in the UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS) Plant Science Graduate Program. The scholarships are awarded by LFS in consultation with the UBC Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Students in the Plant Science Graduate Program perform research in plant biology, plant production, protection, biotechnology, physiology, biochemistry, and plant-environment interaction. The program places a high value on an interdisciplinary approach, providing them opportunities to learn outside the classroom, whether through internships, community-based experiential learning, or studying abroad.
UBC’s next generation of plant scientists come with a strong sense of global responsibility with a passion for creating positive and lasting change. Their research discoveries have the potential to reach across borders for world-wide applications. With your support, you can enhance their education and help them achieve the research skills they need to reach their potential – and shape our future.
