About Ian Wiebe
The fiercely intelligent, courageous, ever-witty and beloved Ian Wiebe died on Saturday, April 27, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Vancouver and living internationally as a child, Ian settled in Edmonton after completing his law degree at UBC. Seeing taxation policy as a potential tool for social change, Ian worked for the Department of Justice in tax litigation for as long as he was able.
Ian married Keltie Winters in October 2017 and welcomed his beloved son Findley in February 2020.
Ian had many passions, including his family, friends, food, music, movies, travel, sports and the Vancouver Canucks. With a commitment to truth and justice, even while ill, he volunteered with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre and continued to advocate for issues important to him.
Ian was a witty and sardonic observer of the human condition. He seemed able to talk knowledgeably to anyone about anything. He loved to laugh and could light up a room with his stories and hilarious tales. He lived well and enriched many lives. He is missed tremendously.

Donations to the Ian Wiebe Memorial Fund will celebrate Ian’s passion for the law. It is the family’s wish to raise $50,000 to establish an endowment to honour Ian’s life by supporting students studying law at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC. UBC will finalize the terms of the fund in consultation with the family.
