Your support of the CEDAR Outreach and Mentorship Program Fund will help bring scientific learning to Indigenous youth

Help bring scientific learning to Indigenous youth.

Since 2005, the CEDAR (Cross-cultural Education through Demonstration, Activity and Recreation) Outreach and Mentorship Fund has supported scientific learning for Indigenous youth on the UBC Vancouver campus. In the many years that this program has been running, hundreds of Indigenous youth have participated on the Musqueam campus, with several returning to UBC as students in a variety of degree programs.

This fund supports outreach and mentorship programs including:

  • IMPulse Mentorship—This program provides Indigenous high school students with an opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with role models at UBC who understand their cultural history, and to experience elements of the Vancouver campus first-hand.
  • CEDAR Camp—Campers explore STEM topics including marine biology, animal physiology and artificial intelligence and touring UBC’s multiple research facilities and laboratories such as the world-renowned particle accelerator at TRIUMF.
  • Workshops—Indigenous STEM workshops for students are held throughout the school year.

“My son got to see that university is a place for him. He came back from camp every day with stories and ideas of things he wants to learn more about. It showed him there are ideas, technology and innovations out in the world that he can bring back to his community to make it a better place.”

Your gift will help introduce Indigenous youth, in a culturally relevant context, to the exciting world of STEM at UBC and a future in this discipline.
