Black Flourishing in
Education Initiative

Faculty of Education

Make our classrooms and societies more equitable and inclusive

Black educators are significantly underrepresented in Canadian classrooms—together, we can create change.

A diverse teaching workforce can empower students and enrich their learning experiences.

The underrepresentation of Black educators in Canada affects not only Black students, who may have limited access to role models reflecting their identities and experiences, but also all students, who miss the rich perspectives and contributions that Black educators bring to the classroom.

Your support of the Black Flourishing in Education Initiative will contribute to systemic change in the education system by:

  • recruiting, retaining and graduating more Black educators, who reflect the diversity of Canadian classrooms
  • building a mentorship and support network serving current and future students, anchored in community and cultural knowledge
  • strengthening pathways to teacher education for Black students in BC through entrance scholarships

Your gift will support equity, representation and a meaningful change in education, for both teachers and students. Be a part of their future and give today.

  • Black Flourishing calls us to confront the realities of anti-Black racism, dismantle systemic barriers, and center Black voices, knowledge systems and leadership at the heart of education. This initiative is about building a future where Black students, educators and researchers are not only included, but fully supported to lead, contribute and belong.
