As global temperatures rise, communities face an increased risk of wildfires. The impacts—ranging from threats to public safety and health to the loss and damage of homes, vital infrastructure and natural resources—are now a reality deeply embedded in our lives. Now is the time to seek solutions.
Located in the heart of the southern interior, UBC Okanagan is on the front lines of wildfire risk. This uniquely positions our researchers to rapidly gather data, expand knowledge and develop technologies and practices that will help keep our communities and resources safe.
Supporting the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science’s Wildfire Resilience Fund will propel this critical work forward. It will ensure the Faculty’s internationally leading researchers have the resources they need to explore new ways of studying and managing wildfire risk and behaviour. Your contribution will help develop advanced camera and sensor systems for real-time wildfire detection and fire risk monitoring, provide essential training in prescribed burns, and create wildfire science testing facilities unlike any others in Canada. It will empower students and researchers at UBC Okanagan to achieve breakthroughs that protect our homes, environment and way of life.
By giving to the Wildfire Resilience Fund, you will play a pivotal role in tackling the growing threat and impact of wildfires on our communities. Together, we can shape a safer, more resilient future.
