Built nearly 30 years ago for 2,500 students, UBC Okanagan’s single gymnasium now serves a campus of more than 12,000 students. Demand for recreation space far exceeds capacity and, every year, 1,400 intramural participants are turned away, varsity teams lose training time, and community groups struggle to find court access. With your support, together we can address this shortfall—and make sure that every student has access to the recreation facilities they need to thrive.
Students are the driving force behind the UBO Recreation Centre expansion. Together with UBC, they are leading the way with the foundational contribution to make a two-court recreation facility a reality, creating urgently needed space for more student recreation, intramurals and group fitness. It will also free up our existing gym for more varsity and Junior Heat training and competition, and expand access to recreation to the wider community.
With donor support, we have the opportunity to expand the project to a larger three-court facility, creating 70% more recreation space for our students, athletes and community members.
This game-changing facility will:
As one of the fastest growing campuses in the country, UBC Okanagan is committed to ensuring opportunities for student recreation and sport grow alongside our campus. You can help ensure we have the facilities our students need—today, and into the future.
Your gift is an investment in a healthier, more connected Okanagan. Together, we can ensure no student or athlete is left on the sidelines—and build a legacy of wellbeing and excellence for generations to come.
Help secure access to recreation, healthy living and mental health for students
