Plant Growth
Facility (Greenhouse)

Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science

Support the future of agriculture

With capacity for more than 10,000 individual plants, the new 5100 square foot Plant Growth Facility is a critical piece of infrastructure at UBC Okanagan to drive agricultural research and student training opportunities.

Researchers at UBC Okanagan are focused on Canada’s top climate change risks. Their research will support Canada’s economic sector strategy in agriculture and agri-food manufacturing to achieve growth, food security and sustainability. Projects run the gamut from adaptation to climate change, interactions with beneficial and pathogenic microbes, effects of wildfires on native and cultivated crops, and obtaining useful new chemicals from plants. Gifts from donors will be used to support future enhancements to the facility as well as graduate students and research activity focused on agriculture in the region, Canada and internationally.
